CDA Foundation earns Point of Light Award

CDA Cares was recently selected as a Daily Point of Light Award honoree for the work the CDA Foundation has done through the volunteer dental program.

The Daily Point of Light Award was established by President George H.W. Bush to recognize the power of individuals and groups to spark change and improve the world.

In a letter sent to the CDA Foundation from the Points of Light program, the efforts of CDA Cares were said to “honor the legacy of this award, demonstrating the power of service to create tangible change … Your efforts are a remarkable example of the generosity and compassion that make our communities stronger and better.”

The goal of CDA Cares is to relieve pain and infection and educate the public and policymakers about the importance of good oral health and the need for an adequately funded dental safety net, including a state dental director, who can develop programs to improve the oral health of Californians. Since the CDA Cares program began in 2012, the CDA Foundation has provided $7.5 million in dental services at no charge to more than 10,000 patients.

Points of Light is the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. The organization celebrates the power of volunteers and their capacity to impact areas such as the economy, education and the environment.
